Microsoft's .NET Technology
We are committed to Microsoft's new .NET technology
because we believe it is the best development tool to use now and into the future.
What this means for our clients:
.NET is a set of technologies
designed to enhance developer productivity. It leads to
software that has fewer bugs, is more secure, has more
features, and is easier to build. In short, by using .NET we can build you better software at a
lower cost.
.NET is also the right choice for
software that needs to be web-ready. Even if now isn't the time for your organization to take its
business processes to the web, planning for the future
will reduce expenses when you do make
the transition.
If you'd like to find out more about this new
technology and what it can do for your business, go to Microsoft's web site at: http://www.microsoft.com/net/default.asp
Where should .NET be used?
We have completed .NET projects using both Windows
Forms for standard desktop systems and Web Forms for web
development, and have found this platform to be rich and
efficient for both development and production.
Contact David Krumholz (609) 799-7715, ext.

to discuss .NET project implementation.
Use ASP .NET for New Web Projects
Our .NET Web projects are deployed on Windows 2000
servers. We have completed a Mental Health Database
system for Bergen County New Jersey which collects
information used by municipalities to plan for
housing the mentally retarded in the community.
Add .NET Technology to Existing Web Systems
.NET functionality can be added to your
existing ASP sites. ASPX pages and ASP pages can
simultaneously reside on the same server as part of
the same site. We now add pages to existing ASP
sites using the new .NET technology.
Migrate Systems from the LAN to the Web
Because the .NET path for Web development is similar
to the VB path there is a smaller impediment to Web
deployment. Web deployment benefits include access
from any machine with a Web browser and Internet
connection, ease of installation, maintenance and
backup. We are converting a system used by the
Bergen Generating Station, owned and operated by
Public Services Electric and Gas Company, from its
single computer installation to a multi-access Web
system.
Upgrade Older Desktop Systems To .NET
Upgrading systems from previous versions of the
Microsoft development products to .NET can be
challenging. For example, arrays are now zero based
and the default variant data type has been deleted.
The upgrade process is not straightforward and a
cost benefit analysis for a rewrite should be done.
We are doing an upgrade using VB.NET of Divorce
Settlement Assistant, an application that helps
attorneys and judges settle family law cases.
Reevaluate Deployment Alternatives
Projects that are in the early stages of
development using Microsoft development platforms (or
other development products) should be evaluated to
determine if they should be deployed using the .NET
platform. We have redirected a database project for
Community Grants and Planning to the .NET Web Form
environment. The project will enable them to better
serve their municipal clients as well as more
effectively market and prepare proposals.
